Coming Home to Teva: Rediscovering Purpose and Community

For some, a career move to a new company is a one-way ticket to new experiences, challenges, and growth. But for Sharon Biran, Teva Israel, and Amy Melchior, Teva USA, returning to Teva felt like coming home. Both Sharon and Amy originally stepped away from Teva, looking to broaden their horizons. Yet, after exploring other roles, both found their way back, carrying fresh insights and renewed appreciation for Teva’s supportive and purpose-driven culture. Read their stories below.

Sharon Biran: “I wanted to be part of something bigger again”

When I started at Teva, my role was all about keeping things organized. I had varied administrative responsibilities, from managing calendars and generating reports to preparing performance metrics. I was also given the opportunity to work closely with leadership, which allowed me to develop a wide range of skills, including how to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively.

But in 2018, when Teva offered a voluntary separation program, I decided to take a leap into the unknown and grab the opportunity to try something new. I joined a tech start-up with a staff of 80. It was a big step, but I was ready. And it allowed me to dive into HR, a field I’d always wanted to explore.

The start-up was fast-paced and chaotic. I had to juggle a lot and adapt quickly while constantly trying to navigate the ad hoc processes. I learned so much, but honestly, I missed the structure of a big company—at Teva, you don’t have to chase people to follow procedures. Things just work smoothly.

When the start-up shut down in 2022, my friends at Teva encouraged me to return. The transition from the start-up back to a global environment was challenging. The pace and processes at Teva are different, but I was excited to build on the skills I’d developed while away. For example, at the start-up, I organized workshops and events, so I gained lots of experience working with people and getting to know them. These interpersonal skills have prepared me well for my current role at Teva.

Returning to Teva honestly felt like coming home. There are so many opportunities to grow and explore new areas. Most importantly, coming back to such a huge company gives you stability. What I like best is that Teva really does do good by bringing medications to people who need them. I am so proud to work for a company that prioritizes the wellbeing of both patients and employees.

Amy Melchior: “For me, Teva isn’t just a job”

I joined Teva one year out of college as a quality control scientist. Over the last two decades, I have navigated through roles both inside and outside of Teva. My journey has taken me from positions such as clinical scientist to eventually finding my passion as a medical writer, which I love and where I proudly contribute today.

When people ask me why I chose roles outside of Teva, my answer is simple: I wanted to expand my knowledge in the field and gain exposure to practices in both large and small companies. But while I was away, something was always missing. Those other places didn’t have the same feeling—the sense of community and Teva’s family just wasn’t there. And every time I returned to Teva, it felt like I never left.

Having outside experience has broadened my perspective. You come back with fresh insights. You see ways to improve things, and Teva encourages you to act on them. For instance, during my time away, I gained exposure to practices in other companies that helped me develop expertise in different document types, associated timelines, and workflow practices. I am actively working on integrating these ideas into our department.

Today, my focus is on elevating the role of medical writing in R&D and embracing greater leadership opportunities. I aim to drive transformation, foster innovation, and introduce advanced technologies into our processes while striving to meet or exceed industry standards.

For me, Teva isn’t just a job. The company’s purpose of improving health for people worldwide keeps me passionate about my work. It’s a place where I feel like I belong. The support and collaboration are genuine here. We help each other, and that makes all the difference.
